Do they sell cold beer??
This is a historic piece of the old route 66 , outside of the Cafe are two markers erected by E Campus Vitus, a mens historical society also known as ECV. The food is very good both times I stopped there, first time I had chicken fried steak dinner and it was very delicious, the second time I had a double cheeseburger and fries was excellent .
MoreSmall but charming and with a good menu. Good food.
Nice hidden restaurant out in the desert. Good homemade food and desserts.
Food was decent...but NOWAY 2 pieces of bread 1 egg 2 pieces of bacon and 12 ounces of choc milk is close to 17.00 will NOT be coming back here again..
MoreGood food and great service. Some of these reviewers are way to picky.Yes, the place is old but it’s well kept and clean clean clean. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is rustic and the food is delicious. The A rating on the front door says it all. This is a classic diner doing classic diner food well.
MoreIt was good basic diner food. Nice wait staff, reasonably priced and clean.
Good home style cooking and a great price
I Order their famous dip sandwich, the meat was dry and old, I chose a salad with the sandwich and didn't get it, also they don't have a good customer service. I would not stop eat here again.
MoreVery quaint, clean and good food.
Come hungry and weary :) this place will surprise you. Old town feels with great service. About $15 per person. My only complaint is the orange juice lol. But the tuna melt and chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy was excellent.
MoreWe only came in for pie and it wasn’t the nicest pie I’ve eaten - but the meals did look super delicious. I’d highly recommend this cafe because it was an awesome experience and inside the cafe is a treat! We really enjoyed visiting the cafe on our trip of Route 66 and I’d definitely go and enjoy a meal there next time.
MoreIt was a nice place. We had the chilli. The service was prompt. Our food was fresh and hot. They gave us drinks to go. It has a nice friendly atmosphere. The staff was friendly . The prices were reasonable.
MoreWe arrived at this spot for a meeting. my friend recommended this place. Well, it was very successful. The crew were very polite and we felt good. The food was just great. We enjoyed every moment and we will visit this place again. We recommend this place to all.
MoreGood food and service!
Have stopped for breakfast several times. Food is good as is the service.
Best breakfast I've ever had. Look at the size of that hamsteak! $15 for all that food. I've got enough leftover for lunch. This historic, cozy, friendly little cafe in the desert of southern California is wonderful. They didnt get dial/pushbutton landline phones till 1988.This the only truck stop/hotel between Needles and Barstow (150 miles). Route 66 man. Gotta love it.
MoreThe only place serving hot foods in i40. The food not bad and have regular taste, it's chicken steak.
MoreFirst the waitress gets frustrated when more than a few people come in. She raised her voice to repeat herself when she realized some folks had an accent (they spoke English). The order took 32 minutes from when I noticed the time. It was a burger with bacon and a turkey sandwich. I quickly realized why the order took so long once I got it. The burger was crispier than the bacon. I did not eat it. It was literally leather. We left without saying a bad word (or a nice one). By the way the waitress was cranked up to 11 and had ripped the knob by the time we left. Just saying
MoreLots of stats for character, old as the road around it, did not have a rotary dial phone until 1988! You had to pick up the phone and talk to an operator in LA to dial another person ( no number, they would know by the ring of the phone who it is for). Food leaves a lot to desire. This only vegetarian option is fruit salad, which is pretty cold and hits the spot, with some sorbet in the middle.
MoreTook forever for the waitress to notice us, wasn't even busy. She was friendly though when she did ask us what we wanted.Me and my Co driver ordered a bowl of chili, bacon cheese burger, and coffee. It ended up being 19.50.3 stars for the wait, and for how average everything was. The cheeseburger had no flavor and was small, the chili had a weird flavor, good coffee. The fries were actually pretty great, I love a nice crunch to my fries. The burger would be significantly better if the bun was toasted, and if the burger was juicy.
MoreFun, friendly, great service, and hit-the-spot comfort food plus homemade pie.
Brilliant breakfast, very tasty and the coffee was Delicious! Will definitely be back.
MoreGood food, nice people
Classic route 66 roadside diner except this one is like an outpost (nearly all on its own). Great character, interesting historical data on stone out front. Nice views. Recommend homemade chili and soup.
MoreGreat food, fast and friendly service. Would definitely eat here again.
Very nice breakfast place. Food was excellent service was excellent but the prices were kinda high but then again im from florida. Its a little cheaper there. But will definitely go back if we pass through again.
MoreSo many places try to be "old style diners". This places clock stopped in the mid 1950s organically. The food is mom and pop and served exactly the way you want it prepared. The decor takes you back in time to the 1800s starting at the front door with an old mining cars setup.I stop in every chance I get for the food, service and ambience.
MoreThis is my first visit. I ordered ham cheese omelet with gravy biscuit. The food was superb. A hearty helping. Enough to feed 2 people. Everything was hot and fresh. The slice of orange on the side is an excellent touch. The price is a bit high compared to fast food, but compared to other sit down restaurants the price is fair. The men's room was clean and well stocked. But there was a smell. Perhaps from sulphur in the well water.Overall 4 stars, great food, great service. The waitress was friendly and smiled alot.
MoreGreat experience... Ludlow cafe you guys are the greatest. We didnt get ran off because they were about to closr when we walked in. They let us eat and were pleasant along the way. The food was great and the service was better.
MoreOld-school western diner. Food is very good and staff are very nice.
I love these diners from the past. The food is both very reasonable and delicious. I miss these kinds of restaurants where I live. We mostly have corporate establishments that just don't have the feel that you get in a place that has been serving home cooked meals like this. I will be going back again on my next trip out that way.
MoreGreat food and service! Nice quiet atmosphere. Dine in or take out, plenty to choose from on the menu. Ordered breakfast and it was perfect! Everything prepared hot, the bread used for my toast was wonderful!
MoreI had the best ham steak breakfast in years here. Very friendly staff, great food, clean 'n cozy, with a collection of fun stuff to read. The Ludlow Cafe is a "must stop at place" if you're traveling I-40, or rather on Route 66, the Mother Road.
MoreThe was my first time stopping in Ludlow after numerous trips down the I40. This is a nice clean little old fashion cafe. The staff a very friendly. I had a basic cheese burger that was cooked just right. I'll be stopping here again.
MoreTerrible, only thing that saved the ham and cheese sandwich was the rye bread. The only thing that was good about the frys was the ketchup tea was burnt.. the petson behind the counter was not totally rude but not friendly at all like she did not even want u there. I never write bad things about restuarants. But worst experience ever. I will never go back ...
MoreThis cafe has an interesting exterior, with the tall ceilings and the interesting architecture. The building itself looked really old but also restored. The food here was very good. I ordered an egg salad sandwich with a side of potato salad. The egg salad was heavy on the dill and same with the potato salad, so the flavor was a bit repetitive so I wouldn’t order that specific combination again. My husband had the omelette, which he thought was really good. They were able to make him a vegetarian omelette but they charged us extra for it. Not sure why, but we didn’t ask. The waitress is outgoing, friendly and super casual. My husband thought the place wasn’t so clean (ie restroom) so he was concerned about the cleanliness of the restaurant.
MoreSurprisingly ok. My wife's turkey sandwich was very basic, but my French dip was pretty awesome. Meat was tender. No fatty veins. A reading of four might be generous, but three is probably too low. I would eat here again.
MoreVery friendly. Ordered eggs over medium and they were cooked perfectly. Their was no uncooked eggwhites and the yoke was very runny. Prices are very good and not overpriced at all.
MoreThey serve a really good omelette. Their home fries are made with red potatoe . They were delicious. The service was really good. I would recommend eating here.
MoreEvidently 12 minutes past closing still me closed. Didn't know if they were open or not stood in the lobby for about 10 minutes before someone notice me. Told closed I said I would like to have a dessert to go if possible. I was told absolutely not. By looking at this area you need every bit of business you can get. I will not bother stopping here again this a regular route for me but not stopping here again.
MoreGreat food. An escape from fast food, truck stop food and high priced places.
they close at 6pm i arrived at 5:55 they still served me. food was great and staff very welcoming
MoreCool vintage spot. Loved the vibe. Fresh pies available. I stopped for lunch and had the special, fried shimp and a bowl of clam chowder. I loved the chowder and should have stuck with that. The shrimp lookef yummy but it was all breading..I did not know there was shrimp so small...smaller thank salad shrimps. But others were ordering and eating burgers....they looked delicious!
MoreGoing to Laughlin on the 40 or the 66? Stop by this place and give them some business. It's not going to be the best breakfast you have ever had, get that out of your mind. This is a step back in time and a look into the past. Such a great place to come by and spend an hour. The old lady waitress is great. Not much for conversation, but a sweetheart none the less. Prices are in the 8 dollar range, nothing harsh. A lot of souvenirs to be bought. Next door there is an old gas station with a fire truck parked out front. Leave your name and date on the body and see if it's still there the next time you come by. American flag bench, mining cart, electrical resistor, and charm...that's to be expected here. Don't let this great little spot go away, come by and spend some dollars here.
MoreA real American breakfast in the historic route 66
One of my main spots to grab some food. convenient location, neat, and great service. Very good job!
MoreI only gave this dump a star so I can leave a comment. If u are not white they will NOT give u service. As soon as I walked in the woman behind the counter dissapeared so that she didn't have to wait on me. So I took my business across the way. This place does not have a bright future.😶😶. Racist much?? How small of them.
MoreMy parents and I ate at this cafe years ago and I have to say it was way better than I thought it would be. I generally rate food as poor, fair, good, or excellent and I'd say the food here was in the good category. It's pretty cool inside and unique. I really enjoyed this place and would gladly go back. The Ludlow Cafe is one of those opportunities when traveling that you should just check out. How often do you have a chance to try a cafe in the middle of nowhere? . . . and it was pretty good. We could have easily waited for a fast food restaurant several miles down the road or something at the gas station but we decided to "soak up culture" and try this place. Very cool experience, nice people, not too pricey, and pretty decent food. I'd totally say try it. Thanks for reading.
MoreGreat place. Fast friendly. Good food and service
last night was the first time we went to this good restaurant. But It is no doubt not the last time. We had great time with the generous service, with the excellent meal and booze and with the friendly price. We will surely visit there in a short time.
